Software Architect - JavaScript

JavaScript is a central technology of the trivago Hotel Search. Faced with high performance requirements, our JavaScript engineers work relentlessly on speeding up the application while keeping the code modular and maintainable.
We are currently looking for a JavaScript Architect who will support us in our efforts by maintaining and improving our existing tools and frameworks. Are you an innovative thinker? Do you create solid architectures that are well-structured and extensible? Would you like to create plugins for Babel and webpack? Then we should definitely talk!
You’ll become a vital part of our expanding JavaScript architecture team and will be given the chance to work and experiment with the newest technology. Your daily work will allow you to work on various parts of modern front end development, ranging from inventing ideal design patterns to hunting down performance bugs. As part of our JavaScript architecture team, you’ll be given the chance to hold workshops and spread your knowledge throughout our entire company.

Your responsibilities:

  • Maintain and refine our webpack-powered build setup by adding custom plugins and loaders.
  • Extend Babel with custom transpilation steps.
  • Dive into a modern JavaScript framework and become its new core developer.
  • Create documentation and spread best practices.
  • Create productivity-enhancing developer tools (Chrome addon, etc.) for our framework.
  • Develop and maintain a template compiler to take our client-side rendering process to the next level.
  • Work on our next generation virtual DOM library.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has excellent knowledge of ES2015+. Familiarity with other programming languages (especially PHP) would be a plus.
  • Has solid knowledge of webpack and Babel.
  • Is well versed in JavaScript application architecture.
  • Knows React and the underlying principles.
  • Is skilled in framework design and familiar with design patterns.
  • Has at least a basic knowledge in compiler design.
  • Is pragmatic and knows when to make trade-offs.
  • Holds an academic degree in the field of IT or has completed a comparable apprenticeship successfully.
  • Speaks English fluently.
  • Can start as soon as possible.
